I've been taking a bit of a hiatus from my Wiltshire wanderings this winter, but to prepare myself for spring and summer my focus has been on planning visits and camera maintenance.
Camera maintenance is a bit more involved now I use drones, as it involves the dreaded firmware updates and battery cycling, but I'm also waiting for some decent wintry weather as I have a couple of places in mind which would look fabulous covered in snow.
Cockey Down is one of them as it is a great vantage point for the city of Salisbury, as well as being on a hill. Another option is Middleton Down, although access might be tricky in ice and snow !
I did stumble across Widbrook Wood at the weekend, which is a parcel of woodland bordered by the Kennet and Avon canal on one side and the River Biss and the River Avon on the other. The canal is elevated, and the woodland slopes steeply down to the River. It looks very sorry for itself at this time of year with the mud and the leafless trees but in the summer it will look stunning.
Another thing I have added to the site is a section on White Horses. There are 8 in Wiltshire and I will be visiting them all.
